The Department of Home Science had organized a talk on Early Intervention and Stimulation on 19/11/2018. The resource person for the talk was Ms.Liya Grace Kurian, Counsellor and Child Development Specialist, Kolenchery Medical Mission Hospital. The talk was given to the II B.Sc.Home Science students.

Early intervention includes various services that support babies and toddlers with the developmental delays or disabilities. Ms. Liya emphasized that helping the babies and toddlers learn the basic skills help them to develop during the first three years of life and even in the later stages of their life.

Ms.Liya explained on the various activities done under early intervention and stimulation., physical (reaching, rolling, crawling, and walking),cognitive (thinking, learning, solving problems);communication (talking, listening, understanding);social/emotional (playing, feeling secure and happy); and self-help (eating, dressing).

She also explained on various early intervention services like Assistive technology, Audiology or hearing services, Speech and language service, Counseling and training for a family, Medical services, Nutrition service, Occupational therapy, Physio therapy, Psychological services.

The crucial role to be played by parents and other caregivers were also explained. She highlighted on the role of parents in giving physical and mental support for young children.

On the whole, the talk was an informative session on the early intervention and stimulation services rendered to the young children having developmental delays.
