Brief Description (Need/Impact/Action/Photo -Geotagged / brochure /Poster/Thumbnail):

The session began with a brief introduction to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, highlighting their purpose in addressing global challenges such as poverty, inequality, climate change, and environmental degradation. We explained the importance of each goal and how they interconnect, emphasizing that achieving these goals requires collective effort at local, national, and global levels.

Interactive Discussions

Following the introduction, the team  facilitated an interactive discussion with the students. The  team divided them into small groups and encouraged them to share their thoughts on sustainability and what it means to them. The students were eager to express their ideas, discussing local environmental issues and suggesting ways they could contribute to a sustainable future. Their enthusiasm and creativity were evident, as they proposed various initiatives like recycling drives, tree plantation programs, and awareness campaigns.

Games and Quiz

To reinforce the learning experience, the team  organized a series of games and a quiz based on the information shared during the seminar. The games were designed to foster teamwork and collaboration among students.

The quiz, whichfollowed the games, tested the students’ knowledge of the SDGs. Questions ranged from identifying the goals to discussing their implications in real-world scenarios. This interactive format not only kept the students engaged but also encouraged friendly competition.

Rewards and Motivation

To incentivize participation,  the team decided to reward students who answered quiz questions correctly with chocolates. This approach not only motivated them to engage actively but also made the learning process enjoyable. The excitement in the room was palpable, as students cheered for their peers and eagerly awaited their turns to answer questions.

Student Engagement and Feedback

The response from the students was overwhelmingly positive. Many expressed that they found the seminar informative and fun. They appreciated the interactive format, which allowed them to participate actively rather than just listen passively. The combination of discussions, games, and quizzes created a dynamic atmosphere conducive to learning.

Students provided feedback indicating that they felt more informed about the SDGs and were inspired to take action within their community. Several students mentioned they would like to initiate projects related to the goals discussed, showcasing the seminars impact on their mindset and motivation.

Outcomes:

The seminar at St. Peter’s School, Kumbalangi, was a successful initiative aimed at promoting awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals among young students. By blending education with interactive activities, we created an engaging environment that encouraged students to think critically about sustainability and their role in achieving these global goals.

The enthusiasm displayed by the students reassured us of the importance of such initiatives in fostering a generation that is not only aware of global challenges but is also equipped and motivated to make a difference. We hope to continue such educational outreach programs in the future, nurturing a culture of sustainability among young minds.
