The Department of Cyber Security and Applied Computing, in association with Interncan, presented a very insightful Hack Talk on 12th August 2024. The event started with an interactive session for the students shortly after 11:45 am. For that, the Interncan volunteers made the students sit in 6 different groups. After letting the students name their respective groups, the volunteers revealed a fun gaming session, named ‘Cord wire game’. From every group, one person should come and explain the topic (which will be given on the spot) in under 90 seconds while detangling an unused cable/cord. Everyone actively participated in the game and points were added to their respective groups accordingly. Mr. Neeraj, a cybersecurity analyst, took an interesting and interactive session about “Hacking.” He firstly talked about our password’s security, and how we can ensure our password is secure, by showing us a website that allows us to type in a password and it will show how many days/years/months it would take a computer to hack it. The session went on smoothly with insightful topics such as awareness about cyber attacks, cyber crimes, ways in which a hacker can easily have access to our appliances, and so much more. His advice was very beneficial.

After Mr. Neeraj’s session, Interncan’s orientation event commenced. After showing the students a video about Interncan’s previous works, a fun quiz game was held by the volunteers. Anuja Joji, one of the volunteers of Interncan, was the quiz master. All the groups actively participated in the quiz game and the group that got the highest points was awarded with prizes. Lastly, the volunteers handed the students a small form for writing feedback. The valuable session came to an end with a vote of thanks, which was done by one of the volunteers itself.

The hack talk conducted in college was a resounding success, engaging students in discussions about cybersecurity, ethical hacking, and the latest trends in technology. The session provided valuable insights into the importance of safeguarding digital assets and the role of ethical hackers in protecting organizations from cyber threats. Participants were introduced to various hacking tools and techniques. Overall, the hack talk was instrumental in fostering a culture of innovation and awareness within the college community.
