World Food Day is celebrated all over the world on October 16. It is an initiative by the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. To commemorate the World Food Day, Department of Food Processing Technology in association with Food Safety Department, Ernakulam has organized an “Expert Talk”  and Inter-collegiate Millet Recipe Competition on 17th October 2022 at 11:00 am in Arts Auditorium. The event was inaugurated by Mr. John Vijayakumar (Assistant Commissioner of Food Safety, Ernakulam. Followed by an “Expert Talk” by Ms. Shamsiya M N (Food Safety Officer, Kalammassery, Region). The presence of  various Food Safety Officers from different regions of Ernakulam enlightened the function.

Students from various colleges took active participation in the “Millet Recipe Competition” and exhibited in the Arts Block. All the sample were tested according to the Sensory parameters, Ease of preparation, Nutritional Quality  by four member panel. Chef. Suresh Pillai,  Mr. John Vijayakumar (Assistant Commissioner of Food Safety, Ernakulam), Ms. Shamsiya M N (Food Safety Officer, Kalammassery, Region), Ms. Shimna Iffin (Nutritionist) judged all the  samples.

The winners are:

1st prize – Anna Sinil and Mily Tommy (2nd year M.VOC Food processing Technology)

2nd Prize – Aleena Francis 3rd Year B.VOC Food Processing Technology)

3rd Prize – Salomi (Clinical Nutrition and dietetics)
