As a part of “ Global Iodine Deficiency Disorder Prevention Day” which is celebrated globally on 30th October, 2018 the Directorate of Health Services, Government of Kerala and the State Nutrition Bureau conducted programmes at General Hospital ,Ernakulam under the auspices ofIodine Deficiency Disorder Control Cell, Trivandrum. An awaremess campaign along with few competitions with an objective of creating awareness among public regarding iodine deficiency disorders and their consequences was envisaged. An exhibition of iodine rich foods and the role of Iodine as a micronutrient was arranged to provide information to the community. The function was formally inaugurated by Honorable Member of Parliament (MP) Shri.K.V Thomas, Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA)Ernakulam, Shri HibiEden,and felicitations by Kochi Mayor MrsSoumini Jain.  There was an oath taking ceremony to pledge the eradication of Iodine Deficiency in our state.The students of II Msc Food Science and Nutrition, Dept of Home Science participated in various competitions and secured prizes for the same.

The students also arranged a skit bearing the name “kunjemaap” demonstrating various health effects regarding iodine deficiency and thus creating awareness among the people .
