Everyone has the right to safe, nutritious and sufficient food. Still today, almost one in 10 people in the world fall ill, and 420,000 die after eating contaminated food. When food is not safe, children cannot learn, adults cannot work. Food can become contaminated at any point from production to consumption. While the primary food safety responsibility lies with food producers, many food-borne diseases are caused by improperly prepared or mishandled food at home, in food service establishments, markets or even in the farms. To create awareness among the public regarding proper handling of food and the role of food safety department in ensuring safety, the Department of Food Processing Technology has organized a radio programme in Radio Kochi 90FM on the topic “Safer Food, Better Health” hosted by Ms. Deepthi Ann Bibu ,II DC student which was aired in two parts on 11/06/2022 and 12/06/2022. Ms. Shamziya M.N, Food Safety Officer, Idukki Nodal gave the key message in which she explained the common mistakes we do at home while handling foods and points to note while purchasing food and the various actions taken by the government to ensure food safety.
