To evoke the spirit of competitiveness and make the students survive in today’s competitive world, The Department of management studies conducted a two week placement training program iCAN’ from July 10th, 2017 to 20th,July 2017.The objective of this training program was to make students suitable enough for the upcoming placements by sharpening their aptitude and enhancing their soft skills.

The training program was divided into two sessions i.e. Aptitude and Soft skills .The aptitude training was conducted from July 10 to July 17 by FACE(Focus Academy for Career Enhancement),a Coimbatore based skill development companythat provide training to students to face their placement tests. The resource person in charge for training the students in aptitude skills was Mr. Ashok Kumar, who is well qualified mechanical engineer from Amrita Institute of Science and Technology. The aptitude sessions were focused with the aim to sharpen the student’s skills in the field of mathematics, logical reasoning, data interpretation and verbal ability. The session were divided into morning session (9:00am to 12:15 pm) dealing with one subject and afternoon session (1:15pm to 4:30pm) dealing with other subjects

The first day started off with numbers taken in the morning session and reading comprehension in the afternoon session. The students were made acquainted with the concepts of classification of numbers, its divisibility test, remainder theorems, factors-multiples and application of HCF and LCM. The morning session ended with an ice breaking session on same taught concepts, where students performed quite well by answering the questions correctly. The day continued with reading comprehension being taken in the afternoon session where the students were made aware of strategies to increase their reading speed and tackling different types of reading comprehension by identifying the correct tone of the passage.

On 11th-13th July ,2017 ,students learnt the tricks and methods to solve question based on blood relations, coding-decoding & visual reasoning, clocks-calendars &direction-cubes respectively on these days during morning sessions  and then during afternoon session students applied their brains to understand and solve the problems based on time & work, sentence correction and percentages &simple-compound interest respectively. On 14th and 15th July, 2017 the students enjoyed the English and verbal ability classes on topics of sentence correction & para jumbles and vocabulary taken during morning session of the above days respectively. In afternoon session of the above days, the students  understood the Challenging and complex concepts of Time &Work  and data interpretation &sufficiency  respectively.The aptitude training session concluded on 17 July with concepts of profit &loss taught in the morning session and  permutation&combination in the afternoon hours.A test was also conducted for one hour from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on all the concepts being taught during the whole one week in which the students performed quite wellthe correct  by attempting  and answering to almost all the questions correctly.

The overall experience for the students were good. Though the students faced challenges in solving questions on quantitative ability, they tried to cross the hurdles by solving the questions continuously during the week and ultimately making the concepts clear in their minds.
