In observance of the World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10th, the Department of Psychology, St. Teresa’s College (Autonomous), Ernakulam, You Matter Counselling Centre, and Jeevani Centre for Wellbeing organized an Artwork competition on the topic ‘World Suicide Prevention Day 2023-Creating Hope through Artwork. The competition was organized in order to create awareness among students regarding suicide through expressive art. 15 students participated in the competition by submitting their various artworks including paintings, drawings, poetry, write-ups, and other works. Aleena Anna Aby of 2nd year B.Sc. Psychology bagged the first prize for her drawing showing the balancing of the rational and emotional side of a person. A cash prize of 250 rupees was awarded to the prize winner as part of the competition. The program actually helped students to think about the ways in which rates of suicide in our society can be reduced, which they expressed through their creative talents. The program also helped educate and create awareness among students about suicide prevention through expressive art.
