As a part of the ongoing “Professional Grooming Series” organized by the Placement and Career Guidance Cell of the Department of Psychology, St. Teresa’s College (Autonomous), Ernakulam, a comprehensive two-day workshop centered around the theme of “Setting S.M.A.R.T Goals” was held on July 20th and 21st, 2023. The workshop was tailored to benefit first and second-year postgraduate students of Psychology.

Mr. Jubin Joy, an accomplished professional currently serving as the Associate Manager at Ernst & Young, UK, assumed the role of the esteemed resource person for the sessions. His extensive experience spans from 2015 when he embarked on his journey with the Business Development (BD) team at EY. Over the years, he has been intricately involved in spearheading the bid processes of numerous multinational corporations, primarily within the realms of Technology, Telecommunications, and Media sectors. His responsibilities encompassed a spectrum of activities including Research and Analysis, Project Management, and Proposal Development.

During the workshop, Mr. Jubin Joy emphasized the significance of crafting goals that adhere to the S.M.A.R.T. criteria, underscoring their Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely nature. The workshop was an amalgamation of both individual and group activities, all designed to facilitate the process of defining and refining S.M.A.R.T goals. Students were actively engaged in exercises that prompted them to delineate both their short-term and long-term aspirations, subsequently transforming these aspirations into well-defined S.M.A.R.T goals. Furthermore, the workshop encompassed expert insights into professional grooming tips tailored for interviews and group discussions, effectively conveyed through hands-on activities.

The students demonstrated a remarkable level of enthusiasm and interaction throughout the sessions, benefiting from the knowledge and expertise shared by the resource person.

In terms of outcomes, the workshop left a notable impact on the postgraduate students, enhancing their understanding of essential grooming practices and equipping them with the tools to construct and pursue S.M.A.R.T goals pivotal for their future careers.
