As part of the Teresian Rural Outreach Programme, a comprehensive water quality analysis was conducted in Kumbalangi panchayat during 1-9-2023 to 31-1-2024. Samples from tap water, well water, borewell water, pond water, and river water were collected randomly from wards 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 14, 16, and 17. Six critical parameters were analyzed, revealing some concerning findings regarding water safety.

The analysis showed that several wards in Kumbalangi panchayat exhibited all of the tested parameters. Notably, hazardous substances like Ammonia and E. coli were detected in specific water samples. Ammonia contamination was identified in tap water from ward 1, well water from wards 1, 7, and 14, pond water from wards 7 and 16, and river water from ward 7. Additionally, E. coli was found in well water from ward 4, and in both well and pond water samples from ward 14.

These findings highlight potential risks to aquatic life and human health, likely due to the use of fertilizers in soil and contamination from sewage and animal waste. The results emphasize the need for measures to improve water quality and safeguard the health of residents in the Kumbalangi panchayat.
