As part of the third-year curriculum enrichment programme, a Mini Forest Visit was organized to provide students with immersive environmental education and hands-on experience in ecosystem preservation. The visit took place over two days—on 24th and 25th October 2024—with students divided into three batches across both days.
The destination for the visit was a mangrove site near Ramavarma LP School, Ayyamppilly, Kuzhuppilly Panchayat. Students gathered at the Highcourt by 7:00 am and traveled by private bus. They were instructed to carry water and breakfast, wear suitable attire for outdoor activities, and maintain discipline throughout the journey.
One of the highlights of the trip was the presence and guidance of Mr. Manoj Kumar I.B., a dedicated naturalist and environmentalist from Edavanakkad, Kochi. An electrical engineer by profession, Mr. Manoj is widely admired for transforming his 1.5-acre backyard into a lush fruit forest teeming with biodiversity. His forest is maintained without the use of any fertilizers and serves as a thriving habitat for diverse plant species, birds, and insects.
Throughout the visit, Mr. Manoj led the group with deep insight into the importance of mangroves, the threats they face, and how sustainable practices can restore ecological balance. His passion and knowledge deeply inspired the students and made the learning experience more meaningful.
The programme included nature walks, interactive sessions, and mangrove planting activities. Students participated actively and showed keen interest in ecological conservation and biodiversity.
The visit was a successful initiative, enriching students with environmental awareness and a sense of responsibility towards nature. The cooperation and discipline shown by the students, along with the support of the accompanying teachers, contributed to the smooth execution of the programme.
