The  Department of  Zoology, St. Teresa’s college organized a National seminar cum workshop on ‘Emerging Trends in Molecular Biology’ on 30th and 31st January 2020.

The formal function started at 9:30 AM at E- Learning Centre, Science Block, with a prayer by Nandini Sagar of II P.G Zoology and Jazima C.A of I P.G Zoology, followed by a welcome speech by Dr. Meera Jan Abhraham, HOD, Department of Zoology and presidential address by Dr.Sr. Vinitha, Director of St. Teresa’s college. The session was inaugurated by releasing the manual on ‘Emerging trends in molecular biology’which includes detailed procedure for the isolation of genomic DNA from bacteria, Agarose gel electrophoresis and PCR by Dr. Valsamma Joseph handing over the manual to the Director. The felicitation was delivered by Dr. Sajimol Augustine, Principal of St. Teresa’s College. The formal function culminated with the vote of thanks by Dr. Helvin Vincent, Assistant professor and coordinator of the program.

The eminent speakers on the first day of the National Seminar cum Workshop were Dr. Valsamma Joseph, Director and Associate professor, NCAAH (National Centre for Aquatic Animal Health), CUSAT whose research areas include marine biotechnology, marine algal biotechnology and aquatic environment health management and Dr. Sajeevan T.P, Assistant professor, NCAAH, CUSAT, whose specialization include marine bioprospecting for novel  anti- cancer and anti-inflammatory compounds, fish virology and immunology.

The second day of the National Seminar cum workshop included the demonstration on various  molecular techniques headed by Dr. Helvin Vincent and Dr. Jeena Augustine. The workshop dealt with isolation of genomic DNA from bacteria followed by Agarose Gel Electrophoresis and PCR.
