
On August 19, 2025, the Department of English and Centre for Research at St. Teresa’s College
(Autonomous), Ernakulam, organized an engaging session titled “The Nation Needs You(th): The
Fundamental Duties of the Youth.” The session was graced by Advocate Sreekala Vivek, a
distinguished corporate lawyer, APCAM-accredited arbitrator, and Notary Public with over 23
years of experience in litigation and arbitration. She was accompanied by Adv. Elsa Thampi. In her address, Adv. Sreekala defined duty as the moral and civic responsibility of every individual to strengthen the growth and integrity of the nation. She drew attention to the 11 Fundamental Duties enshrined in Article 51A of the Indian Constitution, which call upon citizens to respect the Constitution, uphold the ideals of the freedom struggle, foster harmony, protect public property, cultivate scientific temper, and strive for excellence in all spheres of life.
