Sr.Bertille memorial glass fabrication facility was started in St. Teresa’s College as an extension activity of Department of Chemistry and Centre for Research. It is located in the Central block of the college and was inaugurated by Rev.Dr.Sr.Vinitha,Director of the College on 20th March,2019.

The facility can fabricate scientific apparatus from broken glass wares and disposed tube lights. Mr. Muniswamy, who is retired from Gandhigram Rural University, Tamil Nadu is the person in charge of this facility. He has more than 45 years’ experience as technical head of the fabrication Centre of Gandhigram Rural University. The centre can design, modify, construct and repair various scientific glass apparatus like burettes, boiling tubes and test tubes by glass blowing technique. Glass blowing is a glass forming technique that involves inflating molten glass into a bubble with the aid of a blow pipe or blow tube. Inflation is the expansion of a molten blob of glass by introducing a small amount of air into it.

The objective of the centre is to reuse and recycle broken and damaged glass wares from laboratories. The facility will also offer consultation services to schools and colleges in and around Ernakulam to recycle their broken glass wares. The facility also aims to provide laboratory glass wares to nearby Government schools. The facility is also open for visit by students and faculty from educational institutions.
