A workshop on SPSS in Research was conducted for UG and PG final-year students from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm on 16th February 2023. The resource person of the session was Dr. Jinomol P, Associate Professor at Saintgits Institute of Management. She holds a Ph.D. in Management (Finance) and  has 11 years of teaching experience.

This workshop was aimed to help students to do their research analysis of their dissertation project. The session started with an introduction to basic concepts in research like variables, their types, sampling techniques, and parametric and non-parametric test. After dealing with theoretical aspects, students were practically trained on how to import data from an excel sheet to SPSS, basic aspects of SPSS, variable view, and how to set labels and assign values. Further, they were taught how to run different tests like t-test, correlation, ANOVA, and regression in SPSS, obtain results and analyze the results obtained. The participants were attentive throughout the session and interacted well with the resource person.

The workshop helped the students to get an understanding of the basics of research, what tests to use when, and also hands-on training in conducting different parametric and non-parametric tests like Spearman Correlation, Pearson Correlation, t-test, Mann-Whitney U Test, and simple regression. They also got an understanding of how to analyze data based on the results obtained.
