The Department of Psychology at St. Teresa’s College (Autonomous) Ernakulam organized an enlightening session on “Constitutional Rights of Women” for psychology students on August 16th, 2023, in celebration of Independence Day.

Advocate Parvathi Menon, a distinguished legal practitioner in the High Court of Kerala and the dedicated Project Coordinator of the Victim Rights Centre, as well as the Coordinator of COPT under KeLSA, served as the esteemed guest speaker for the day.

Adv. Parvathi Menon led the session with enlightening insights on the constitutional rights for women in India as well as the various Acts and laws that have been framed to protect women from violence and abuse. She delved into the various laws and rights, drawing from real-life cases to provide the students a better understanding of how to utilize the legal system for their protection and safety. Following her engaging presentation, there was a dynamic question-and-answer session where students had the opportunity to interact with Advocate Parvathi Menon, seeking clarification and sharing their thoughts.

As a token of appreciation, Ms. Bindu John, the Head of the Department of Psychology at St. Teresa’s College, presented a gesture of gratitude to the resource person. The program was attended by all the UG and PG students of the department along with the faculty members. The event left a lasting impact, enriching the students’ awareness of the diverse rights afforded to women in our country.
