An orientation programme on positive thinking and healthy living was conducted on 27th of February , 2016, for the administrative staff of St. Teresa’s college, Ernakulam at the seminar hall. Dr. J. Letha, the Vice Chancellor of Cochin University of Science and Technology inaugurated the programme. She reiterated the importance of positive thinking for a successful living. She also stressed the importance of having a goal or aim in one’s life. Hard work and commitment helps attain greater heights, she added. Principal Dr. Sajimol Augustine welcomed the gathering; Dr. Sr. Vinitha offered the presidential address. Dr. Gladis Mary John proposed the vote of thanks.

Session I: Col. Lalitha Nambiar

The first session was conducted after the tea break. Col. Mrs. Lathitha Nambiar a retired colonel, from the armed forces Medical service, with 21 years of experience, started her session by explaining in depth the various      types of cancers, their causes and preventive methods. She also suggested good and healthy eating habits and lifestyle changes in order to live a healthy and happy life. She maintained that positive thinking was possible only in a healthy body. She also explained about the harmful effects of the junk food culture in the present day society. She used power point presentations to keep the audience engaged. The interactive session that followed  was very helpful for the staff members. Many participants cleared their doubts and queries.

Session II: Dr. Marykutty John

After lunch break Dr. Marykutty John, a seasoned counselor and psychotherapist, and a  medical practitioner in alternative medicines certified by the Indian Board of Alternative medicines, conducted the second session on positive thinking. Positive thinking leads to positive action, she explained. Her session was made lively with anecdotes and stories from her personal experience. Furthermore she stressed the importance of a positive attitude in one’s life. Self-esteem is a combination of self-awareness, self-confidence, self control and self respect. She also mentioned the importance of having four kinds of faith: faith in self, mutual respect, optimism and faith in God to succeed in life.
