The Department of Sociology organized an intercollegiate fest , Rendezvous 2k18, on February 3rd 2018. It was a venture which aimed at unleashing the social world through confluence and interactions. The fest was initiated to underline the social cause of creating awareness regarding eye donation.
In order to bring the ambience of celebration, a flash mob was added to the inaugural ceremony.
The fest was oriented to generate awareness regarding eye donation to not only our students but also for students from other colleges. The inauguration was done by handing over 150 eye donor cards by the students of department of sociology. The chief guests handed over the consent forms to the Cornea Surgeon Dr Prashob Mohan (Giridhar Eye Institute) and Sri Riyasudheen A K (Grief counselor Swarnam eye bank) and later Dr Prashob Mohan has appreciated our students for their social commitment. Dr Sajimol Augustine felicitated the gathering and raised us for our enormous efforts. The formal ceremony was concluded by the vote of thanks of Ms Sheethal V S (Joint Secretary Sociology Association)
The fest showcased various competitions with socially relevant themes. The theme for powerpoint competition , Focal Point, was ‘Media and Narcissism’. The winners were Nidhi V and Neetha Ann Joseph of Sacred Heart College Thevara and Second prize was for Devi Prasad M and Manju G Nair of CMS College Kottayam. The topic for debate competition , Cross Swords, was ‘Should caste based reservation be banned in India’. First prize was bagged by Tony George Thomas and Mohammed Haseeb (Govt Law College) and Second prize was won by Najad P Ashin (Govt Law College) . The theme for photography competition, Optex, was oriented towards socially relevant issues, and the first prize was won by Athul Babu of Zamorins Guruvayoorappan College and Second prize went to Sunaid V.S from S N College Cherthala. A general quiz competition named Catechize was conducted and the first prize was won by Arjun and team (Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady) and the Second prize was won by Sidharth P.K and team (SH College Thevara). Music band competition called Feel the Rhythm was conducted, and the winners were Chinmaya College of Arts, Science and Commerce.
The fest highlighted several socially relevant themes and was a grand success.
