Every year 25th November is celebrated as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. This year on 25th Nov 2022, the Department of Psychology, St. Teresa’s College (Autonomous), Ernakulam collaborated with Sakhi One Stop Center, Ernakulam, District Women and Child Development Department, and MG Coastline Garages India Pvt. Ltd. to create public awareness on the subject with a vehicle rally and cultural programs in Marine Drive and Kaloor Stadium.

The inaugural ceremony of the program was conducted in the Seminar Hall, Arts Block, St. Teresa’s College (Autonomous) Ernakulam at 1.00 PM. The Chief Guest of the program was Shri P Rajkumar, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ernakulam who reiterated the importance of mobilizing more people to support efforts in ending violence against women and to push back against the rollback on women’s rights. Dr. Premna Manoj Sankar, District Women and Child Development Officer, Ms. Thahira Beevi M Women Protection Officer, Ernakulam and Ms. Sandhya V.K. Sakhi One Stop Center also spoke on the occasion. Rev Dr. Sr. Vineetha, Provincial Superior and Manager of the college highlighted the role of men in eliminating violence against women.

The UG and PG students of the department conducted various cultural programs including dance dramas, tableau, personality theme walk, and music related to preventing domestic violence in Marine Drive and Kaloor Stadium.  A display of self-defense techniques was conducted by Lubiana Kalari.

A vehicle rally was organized by students and the parents of the Psychology department in collaboration with MG Coastline Garages India Pvt. Ltd. which proceeded from Marine Drive to Kaloor stadium.  Shri Saaju G, Business Head of MG Coastline Garages India Pvt. Ltd flagged off the car and two-wheeler rally.

The program helped in creating awareness among students and the public regarding the importance of preventing and eliminating violence against women and girls.
