Unique Programmes

You Matter, the counselling initiative of the Department of Psychology, is led by faculty members and postgraduate students with the objective of promoting mental health awareness and psychological well-being within the community. The initiative extends psychological support through mentoring, guidance, and outreach activities conducted in collaboration with schools across the city. By providing safe spaces for dialogue and emotional support, the programme enables students to address academic, social, and personal challenges effectively. At the same time, it offers psychology students valuable supervised training and experiential learning in counselling practices, fostering professional competence, empathy, and social responsibility.

To commemorate World Mental Health Day, the Department of Psychology joined hands with Kochi City Police to host ‘Mind Matters’, an insightful webinar held on 9th October 2025. Expert sessions were led by a Consultant Psychiatrist and a Psychiatric Social Worker from General Hospital, Ernakulam. The speakers delved into key themes including positive mental health, the power of gratitude, self-care practices, stigma surrounding mental health services in Kerala, and support available through the District Mental Health Programme. Beyond raising awareness, the program sought to normalize conversations around mental health, encourage help-seeking behavior, and foster a healthier campus and community.

Milestones:

Perceptia is the flagship Psychology Fest of the Department, initiated in 2025 to create a dynamic platform for academic exploration, creativity, and collaborative learning. The fest brings together students, scholars, and psychology enthusiasts through competitions, workshops, expert talks, and interactive activities that promote psychological awareness and application beyond the classroom. Designed to encourage critical thinking, teamwork, and innovation, Perceptia enables students to translate theoretical knowledge into experiential learning. The event also strengthens intercollegiate engagement and fosters a vibrant academic culture within the department. By integrating learning with creativity and outreach, Perceptia reflects the department’s commitment to making psychology accessible, engaging, and socially relevant.
