As part of commemorating the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26th, the Department of Psychology, St. Teresa’s College (Autonomous) along with the Narcotics Control Bureau, Cochin Zone, organized an awareness class for the students and teachers of the Department of Psychology on 19 June 2023 in Central Block of the campus.

The session was led by Ms. Divya Lakshmi A., Junior Intelligence Officer, NCB Cochin Zone. She spoke about the current trends in Kochi, related to drug usage and trafficking of the same. She explained how young girls and boys become victims of the drug mafia with or without their knowledge. Ms. Divya Lakshmi also explained the various NTPS Acts, the severity of punishments, and how NTPS offenses are non-bailable. She also briefed the students about the different kind of cases under the NTPS Act that the Narcotics team have been involved in. The class was interactive in nature, where the students asked their questions and the officials cleared the same. The class was successful in creating awareness about drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

The session helped students and faculty to understand the current trends in Kochi around narcotics cases and the various legal actions for illicit trafficking and drug abuse.
