The Zoology Association organized a one day seminar on the topic ‘Biodiversity Conservation and Issues‘ on 29th June, 2016. The seminar was inaugurated by Prof. E Kuhnikrishnan, by presenting a plant sapling. During the official function, Dr. Reema Kuriakose, HOD, welcomed the dignitaries and the students.

The first session of the seminar was conducted by Dr. Miriam Paul, Scientist, Marine Biodiversity Department, CMFRI, Kochi on the topic “Marine Biodiversity: Conservation & Issues”. She spoke about the marine biodiversity of India, its importance, threats faced and the need to protect our marine ecosystem. The session ended with a short group discussion followed by the vote of thanks.

The second session was conducted by Prof. E Kuhnikrishnan, Environmentalist and former Head, Dept.of Zoology, University College, Trivandrum, on the topic “Biodiversity of Western Ghats – Conservation Issues an Ecological Perspective”.  He gave an insight into the proud history of the Western Ghats and the endemic species and the issues associated . The session concluded with an interactive session followed by a word of thanks for the speakers.
