As part of celebrating National Statistics day and commemorating the memory of Dr. P C Mahalanobis the Department of mathematics and statistics celebrated The National Statistics Day on 29th June 2020 from 2pm to 3pm on Google meet platform. A webinar was conducted on Mahalanobis Distance for the students and faculty of Department. The chief guest and speaker of the webinar was Dr Ansa Alphonsa Antony, assistant professor Department of Statistics St Xavier’s college Aluva. About 128 participants including the students and faculties participated in the webinar. Dr Ansa Alphonsa spoke about P C Mahalanobis and gave the students clear knowledge about great statistician Mahalanobis, his life and his works and how he was important to the world in the field of statistics. She also spoke about the concept of Mahalanobis distance and opened a new world of statistics to the students.

Outcome of the activity:

The national Statistics Day was celebrated to make the students understand about the importance of statistics in different fields. It also helped the students to know P C Mahalanobis , the Father of Statistics and his major works including the concept of Mahalanobis distance.
