The Teresian Instrumentation and Consultancy Centre (TICC) facilitated a series of microbiology projects undertaken by undergraduate and postgraduate students from St. Teresa’s College (Autonomous), Ernakulam, and Maharaja’s College (Autonomous), Ernakulam. These projects addressed critical issues related to public health, food safety, water quality, and environmental sustainability while providing students with hands-on training in microbiological techniques and laboratory instrumentation.

Water Quality and Public Health

Several projects focused on assessing the microbiological quality of drinking water from various sources, including filtration units, water bottles, and community water supplies. These studies evaluated microbial contamination and potential health risks associated with unsafe drinking water.

Food Safety and Hygiene

Research was conducted on the microbial quality of street-vended foods and drinking water used in food establishments. Studies also examined hygiene and sanitation practices among food handlers, highlighting the importance of food safety in protecting public health.

Environmental Microbiology and Sustainability

Projects explored the role of microorganisms in sustainable environmental management practices, including the vermicomposting of water hyacinth. Such studies demonstrated the potential of microbial processes in converting environmental challenges into valuable resources.
