Limit breakers season 3 – Rev.Sr.Christabelle  Memorial Annual Maths Championship was hosted by the Department of Mathematics and Statistics of St.Teresa’s college in collaboration with Kerala Mathematics Association as part of the centenary celebrations of the college.The programme was conducted for the students of classes 8 to 12.The programme was aimed to promote mathematical excellence and foster a passion for the subject among the students.

Various strategies were employed including visits to different  schools and circulation of brochures.By personally reaching out to schools,the program was able to generate interest and broad participation of students.

The competition was conducted for the students of classes 8 to 12 all over Kerala.The participants were divided into 3 categories based on their classes.

  •         Category 1 : class 8
  •         Category 2 : classes 9 and 10
  •         Category 3 : classes 11 and 12

 The competition took place in two phases. The preliminary screening was done on the basis of online aptitude test which was conducted on 9 December 2023.945 students from 140 schools registered for the test through google forms .502 students participated in the first round. Students were able to participate remotely, submitting their answers and solutions online. This format allowed for a larger participation rate and facilitated the screening process to identify the top performers for the next phase. The online mode helped promote widespread engagement and inclusivity.

The second round was conducted on 4 Januray 2024 at St.Teresa’s college.222 students were selected to the 2nd round.178 students participated in the second round. The offline mode aimed to provide participants with a collaborative and competitive environment. It allowed the students to showcase their mathematical prowess in person and foster peer-to-peer learning and healthy competition. Students showcased their mathematical prowess through a series of challenging problems designed to test their analytical and problem solving skills.100 students who excelled in the second round was honoured on 10 January 2024 at St.Teresa’s college,Ernakulam.

As part of the centenary celebrations , 100 students who emerged as the top performers were accorded special honours. The recognition ceremony was  a momentous occasion graced by esteemed guests. The top 100 students were presented with awards and certificates, acknowledging their mathematical achievements. The day was blessed with the honourable dignitaries—Mr.Loknath Behra IPS,MD,Kochi Metro Rail and Former DGP of Kerala  and Dr.A.Vijayakumar, Emeritus Professor, Dept. of Mathematics, CUSAT. The recognition ceremony also included interactive session by P.Devaraj, Director of Cosmic Maths on the topic ‘STUDY MATHS WITH FUN’.

The Limit Breakers Mathematics championship not only showcased the mathematical talent within the students but also reinforced the commitment of St.Teresa’s college to academic excellence.As the college celebrated its centenary , this event served as a testament to the enduring spirit of learning and achievement that has characterized the institution over the years.

As part of this programm the Department of Mathematics and Statistics of St. Teresa’s College organized an exciting inter collegiate and inter school mathematics game competition aimed at promoting mathematical skills and fostering a love for the subjects among students.The competitions are conducted both for college and school students. Math Maze Explorer , Math Lens and Geoglam which are conducted for college students and Charts Masters Gala and Math Marvel which are conducted for school students.

1.Math Maze Explorer(Treasure Hunt):

Participants engaged in a thrilling treasure hunt where they had to solve mathematical puzzles and navigate through a maze to uncover hidden treasures. This competition encouraged strategic thinking and problem solving skills. The participants were given cash prize, the 1st prize goes to Aquinas College of Rs.10000 and 2nd prize goes to St. Paul’s  College of  Rs.5000.

2.Math Lens(Photography):

Students showcased their creativity by capturing mathematical concepts and phenomena through the lens of photography. This competition combined artistic expression with mathematical exploration, allowing participants to see mathematics in their surroundings. The participants were given cash prize, the 1st prize goes to St. Paul’s College of Rs. 2000 and 2nd prize goes to Sacred Heart’s college of Rs.1000.

3.Geoglam(Face Painting):

Geoglam added a colorful and artistic twist to the event, as participants demonstrated their painting skills by incorporating mathematical themes and concepts into their face painting designs. This competition highlighted the beauty and creativity inherent in mathematics. The participants were given cash prize, the 1st prize goes to SNM College of Rs. 1000 and 2nd prize goes to St. Teresa’s  college of Rs.500.

4.Charts Masters Gala(Geometrical Chart):

School students created informative geometrical charts showcasing mathematical concepts. The participants were given cash prize, the 1st prize goes to Risna from St. Francis School of Rs. 2000 and 2nd prize goes to Diya K Vimal of Fathima high School of Rs.1000.

 

5.Math Marvel(Models):

School students displayed their still models and working models .This competition aimed to increase the creativity and enthusiasm for mathematics among young learners. The participants were given cash prize, the 1st prize goes to Adwthy from Nalanda Public School of Rs. 5000 and 2nd prize goes to Akhila Ramesh from St. Joseph School of Rs.3000.

The intercollegiate and inter school mathematics game competition organized by the Department of Mathematics at St. Teresa’s College was a resounding success, attracting enthusiastic participation from students across various educational institutions. The event not only provided a platform for students to showcase their mathematical skills but also encouraged creativity and innovation in the application of mathematical concepts. By combining traditional academic challenges with artistic expression, the competition succeeded in making mathematics both enjoyable and accessible to all participants.
