The Department of English and Teresian Research and Consultancy Cell and Dhisha in collaboration with KELSA (Kerala State Legal Services Authority) and Kerala State Youth Commission began a five day online legal literacy programme on the 14th of August, 2021. Honorable Minister of Higher education and Social Justice, Dr. Bindhu K R, inaugurated the course. A total of 11 sessions were conducted over the span of 5 days and esteemed lawyers and experts in the field dealt with topics of grave importance such as UDHR, Fundamental Rights, POCSO Act, Transgender Persons Protection of Rights Act, Understanding Fundamental Rights, Functioning of Judicial Structure in India, The Dowry Prohibition Act and Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, Defending Human Rights Commissions, Online Complaint registration methods RTI, Emergency Number, PoSH Act, IPC, Cyber Crimes, Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, Mental Health Care Act, SC/ST PoA, Internal Complaint Committee, GSCASH, SAKSHAM and Samagati reports and UGC – Major Acts and Major Verdicts. The programme concluded with a valedictory function on 27th August 2021 with DCP Aishwarya Dongre IPS as the guest of honour. The 5 day legal literacy programme stirred the legal consciousness of all 58 students who participated. The students were also trained on practical and real-life situations like filing a complaint and approaching a police station.
