As part of the curriculum, the M.Sc Psychology, first semester students of the Department of Psychology went for a hospital visit to InMind hospital (Institute for Mind and Brain), Minalur, Thrissur on Friday, 4th October 2022. Thirty students and 2 faculty members reached the hospital by 10.00 A.M.

The hospital visit was a blend of informative sessions as well as a guided tour of the infrastructure facilities of the hospital. The first session on Inpatient care was taken by Dr. Indu Joshy, Consultant Psychiatrist of InMind Hospital. She spoke about the different multidisciplinary approaches used for inpatient care and also about the importance of taking case history. The second session was engaged by Ms. Lavanya, Assistant Psychologist of InMind hospital. She discussed the base assessments conducted during the initial interview, including the usage of different grids in psychology to rule out the chief complaints of the patients. Ms. Swetha, Assistant Psychologist introduced the technique of Mindskills and mindfulness, which was followed by a live demonstration of Guided Imagery by Ms. Sneha. The final session was about the different types of tests and assessments used in the hospital on a regular basis and it was followed by an interesting question-and-answer session.

Students interacted with the clinical psychologists and practitioners. Their queries were answered by the Consultant Psychiatrist Ms. Indu Joshy, and Assistant Psychologist Ms. Henna P.T. After the sessions, Ms. Henna gave the students and faculty members a tour of the hospital and explained how the different departments and teams work.

The visit helped educate and create awareness among students about how a mental health institution works and how to work as a part of a multidisciplinary team in a mental health institute.
