The Department of Psychology organized a hospital visit to InMind hospital (Institute for Mind and Brain), Minalur, Thrissur on Friday, 14th October 2022 for the PG students of the department. The First and Third Semester M.Sc Psychology students along with four faculty members visited the hospital to get practical exposure to clinical settings.

The students reached the hospital by 10.00 a.m. Various sessions were also organized for the students by the staff members of the hospital.

Dr. Indu Joshy, Consultant Psychiatrist took a session on Inpatient Care in which she talked about the different and multidisciplinary approaches used for inpatient care and also about the importance of case history taking. Ms. Lavanya, Assistant Psychologist of the hospital discussed the base assessments that they conduct during the initial clinical interview of patients, which included the usage of different grids in psychology to rule out the chief complaints of the patients. Ms. Swetha, Assistant Psychologist introduced the technique of Mind skills and Mindfulness, which was followed by a live demonstration of Guided Imagery. The final session was about the different types of tests and assessments that they use in the hospital on a regular basis and it was followed by an interesting question-and-answer session. Students interacted with the clinical practitioners and their queries were addressed by both the Consultant Psychiatrist Ms. Indu Joshy and Assistant Psychologist Ms. Henna P.T.

The students and faculty members were also given a tour of the hospital and the working of different departments and teams were explained in detail to them.

The visit helped educate and create awareness among students about how a mental health institution works and how to work as a part of a multidisciplinary team in a mental health institute.
