Research and development department was inaugurated by Dr. S Christopher, Director General and Secretary, DRDO on December 7, 2015. A seminar on advanced research in Frontier areas of Science and Technology was also conducted.
Dr. Christopher pointed out the importance of research in the field of Defence and other areas while inaugurating the Research and Development Department at St. Teresa’s college Ernakulam. Women can also join defence, they have immense potential especially in the field of research. Emotional Quotient, which is generally considered high in women, is equally important as Intelligence Quotient, he added. There is wide scope for indigenous research in defence technology and manufacture of defence products within our country. We should strive to be self sufficient instead of depending on imported defence goods. Welfare of soldiers is very important as they work in adverse conditions with commitment for the protection of our nation.
Professor K.V Thomas MP was also present on the occasion and he pointed out the importance of research in today’s complex society and appreciated the initiative of the college for starting the R&D department.
On the occasion, Dr. Sajimol Augustine, the Principal of the college proposed the welcome address and Dr. Sr. Vinitha, the Director of the college offered felicitations and handed over the project proposals of the various departments of the college to the Director General, DRDO, for his consideration. She talked about the importance of starting the research and development department in the college. Many research projects and training programmes for research scholars, teachers , students and nonteaching staff can be conducted by the rearch and development department.
Dr. Sr. Vinitha gave a Memento to Dr.Christopher as a token of gratitude on the occasion.
Dr. Gladis Mary John gave the details and objectives of Research and development. Dr. Kala proposed the vote of thanks. Teachers from various departments attended the function.
