As part of the women empowerment and rural outreach programme, the Department of Botany conducted a one day workshop and hands on training in mushroom cultivation on 14th October 2019. Dr. Alphonsa Vijaya Joseph, Associate Professor and Head of the Department welcomed the gathering. Director Dr. Sr. Vinitha CSST, deliverd the presidential address and Principal Dr. Sajimol Augustine offered felicitation. The programme was inaugurated by the Chief Guest and Resource Person Mr. K. Ajay, an Agri entrepreneur in the field of mushroom cultivation.

The first session of the workshop was focussed on empowering women and was attended by the members of Kudumbasree units and ward members of a few panchayaths like Njarakkal, Kadamakudi and Elamakkara.  Entrepreneurs of neighbouring areas, faculty and students of neighbouring colleges also participated in the workshop. The second session was attended by the UG students of various departments of the college. The participants were given hands on training on the techniques of mushroom cultivation and were also explained about the  various value added products from mushrooms.
