The Department of Psychology, in collaboration with the You Matter Counselling Cell, organized a practical session titled “Foundations of Therapeutic Practice” on 26th June 2025. The session was conducted by Fr. Dr. Boby Xavier, counselling psychologist and psychotherapist. The aim of the session was to equip students with the core skills necessary for effective therapeutic practice. Through an engaging and hands-on approach, Dr. Xavier introduced students to basic counselling techniques, therapeutic presence, active listening, and building rapport with clients. The session emphasized the application of theoretical knowledge in real-world settings. As part of the extended learning initiative, students will be spending one day per week in schools, where they will provide counselling support to school students. This initiative is designed to give them practical exposure and firsthand experience in handling youth-related concerns, under guided supervision.
