Established in 1996 in Chungamvely, Aluva, Mithradham is the first fully solar powered renewable energy educational institution in India. Its mission is to further research and education into renewable energy sources for the future, particularly solar power. Our objective as visiting students was to gain an insight into Solar Photovoltaics on site at the facility.
The day consisted of a series of lectures by Mr. Antony, our resource person starting from topics like energy needs, production and consumption patterns in the state of Kerala as well as the country at large before delving into the current and emerging technologies in the solar power industry. We got to inspect the solar panels and battery storage systems where we used the knowledge gained from the classes to make current voltage measurements under various conditions to study solar cell parameters which further solidified our understanding.
