TOPIC: GRETL: APPLICATIONS IN ECONOMICS

Today, quantitative models based on statistics are widely used and popular, econometrics not excluding. In this field statistical models are used to quantify economic problems, hence econometrics is considered as a strategic tool for  problem solving, decision-making or information management. Usually, the quantification of these models is performed using computer. Therefore it is no  surprise that software selection is important in econometrics analysis. The rising  demand for Gretl as a teaching tool, was the main focus for conducting a faculty enrichment seminar on Gretl: applications in economics . This seminar dealt  with main  features of gretl, discussing its advantages too.

Dr.Vijayamohanan Pillai, Associate Professor, CDS,Thiruvananathapuram was the resource person for the seminar. The resource person introduced the software Gretl to the faculty members. The seminar was conducted for the faculty members of the department of economics. The following faculty members attended the seminar.Dr.Nirmala Padmanabhan, Dr.Thushara George, Dr.Mary Liya C.A, Dr.Anupa Jacob, Dr.Swathy Varma , Pearly Antony O,Anju George attended the session.
