On 5 June 2024, to commemorate World Environment Day, the Department of English and Centre for Research organised a seminar to endorse our obligations towards environment and nature. Emphasising this year’s theme, “land restoration, combating desertification and building drought resilience” a session was conducted in the third year BA classroom. Neha Afreen and Ezabella K J made a presentation on “Our Land, Our future” and #Generationrestoration. The triple planetary crisis and degradation, restoration, agricultural reforms, soil health and the import of bees to sustain life – all found a place amongst the topics discussed. Additionally, students decided to abide by feasible protocols such as – ensuring double sided printing, reusing decorations, using refills for pens and using cloth covers for lunchboxes instead of paper or plastic – to contribute towards a sustainable future. A simple craft video instructing how to make paper bags out of newspapers was also created to aid the cause.
