The Teresian Instrumentation and Consultancy Center at St. Teresa’s College (Autonomous), Ernakulam, organized a two-week intensive training program in microbiology for postgraduate students of the Food Nutrition and Dietetics Department within the Home Science division. The program was held from March 7 to March 22, 2024, with a curriculum designed to enhance both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in microbiological techniques. The training sessions included fundamental microbiological techniques such as serial dilution, pour plating, and quadrant streaking, as well as advanced methodologies like staining procedures, Most Probable Number (MPN) analysis, and the methylene blue reductase test for assessing milk quality. As part of their practical coursework, the students applied the insights gained during the program to conduct a mini-project. This project focused on areas such as Total Plate Count (TPC) measurements of various food samples, antibacterial analysis, and MPN evaluations.
