Activity Discription: On January 15, 2025, the Department of Home Science and Centre for Research at St. Teresa’s College, Ernakulam, organized an Alumnae Talk Series in collaboration with the I&E Wing and the Home Science Association. The event was titled “Crafting Timeless Events – A Touch of Sophistication and a World of Possibilities” and was held at the AV Room at 11:00 AM. The session was coordinated by Dr. Treesa Sindhu Thomas.

The program started with a prayer by Smera and Sandra, creating a calm and positive atmosphere. The anchoring was handled gracefully by Theja P. Aleena Antony welcomed everyone warmly and introduced the guest speaker, Dr. Leena Leon, who is the Academic Coordinator at Rajagiri College of Social Sciences, Kalamassery.

Dr. Leena gave a very informative and inspiring talk on event management. She started by explaining what event management is and how it involves planning, organizing, and carrying out events to ensure everything runs smoothly. She explained that the main purpose of event management is to create unforgettable experiences while achieving specific goals, whether personal or professional.

Dr. Leena also spoke about how to choose the right theme for an event. She mentioned that the theme should match the purpose of the event, appeal to the audience, and fit within the budget. The theme, she explained, sets the mood and brings everything together. Another important part of her talk was about the risks involved in event management. She listed challenges like budget limitations, technical problems, weather issues, and last-minute changes. Dr. Leena stressed the importance of preparing backup plans to handle unexpected situations. She also explained who should be involved in event management. She said teamwork is key and listed important roles such as event coordinators, designers, technical teams, caterers, and volunteers. Everyone has a specific role to play to make the event a success.

After the talk, Lakshmi shared her own experiences, which was interesting and relatable. The vote of thanks was delivered by Niviya, who expressed gratitude to the guest and everyone who contributed to the event. The session ended with a photo session with Dr. Leena Leon.

Overall, the program was informative and enjoyable. It gave me and others a clear understanding of event management and how important it is to plan and coordinate effectively. It was a memorable experience, and I feel inspired to apply these ideas in future projects.
