The Department of Management Studies organized a talk session in association with
Commerce Department on the topic “Commemorating 150 Years of the Mahatma” by Dr.
Cyriac Thomas, former VC MG University, Kottayam on Friday, 1st February 2019 at
1.30 pm in Seminar Hall. Dr. Cyriac Thomas, Ph.D. is a Member of the National
Commission for Minority Educational Institutions of India. He had served as the ViceChancellor of Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, Kerala, India and the acting ViceChancellor of Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT). He had also served as the pro Vice-Chancellor and acting Vice-Chancellor of University of Kerala.

The official function began at 1.30 pm with a prayer song to the Lord Almighty by DMS
choir team. This was followed by the welcome address by Ms. Sandra I BMS-IB.
Dr. Cyriac Thomas spoke about Gandhiji who was a true Mahatma, a great soul, who
cultivated the idea of pacifism, reconciliation and nonviolent action throughout his life.
The most important aspect of “true education” is observation. It helps us to observe
something and to make out of it whether it is good or bad. So, the ability to differentiate
between positive and negative comes from true education. True education is beyond the
classroom and we tend to educate ourselves till the last breath, he added.
