The Department of Psychology, St. Teresa’s College (Autonomous), Ernakulam organized a Cancer Awareness session on 2nd February 2023, in collaboration with Aster Medcity, Kochi, and Rotary Club Cochin Milan.
The session started at 10:30 am with a welcome address by Ms. Chitra, a representative from Rotary Club, who introduced the Resource Person – Dr. Nishana- to the program. Mr. Akbar, a Mulavukkad Panchayat felicitated the gathering.
The resource person Dr. Nishana, is a Radiation Oncologist and is currently pursuing her Fellowship in the Radiation Oncology Department of Aster Medicity, Kochi. She spoke about what cancer is and the different types of cancer. Dr. Nishana also highlighted the different cancers prevalent among women like breast cancer and cervical cancer and how to look for the symptoms and get treatment early. She elaborated on self-examination methods for detecting breast cancer. The seminar was attended by more than 75 members of Mulavukadu Kudumbasree along with students and faculty of the Psychology department. The awareness session helped the participants become aware of the symptoms to look out for cancer and to seek treatment options. The program ended with a vote of thanks by Ms. Lexi, Panchayat Member, Mulavukkad Panchayat.
