On July 24th, the Mathematics and Statistics Association was inaugurated with great enthusiasm at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. The event celebrated the establishment of the association, which aims to foster collaboration and innovation among mathematicians from diverse backgrounds.
The ceremony began with a prayer, followed by a warm welcome address outlining the association’s vision. Key presentations included the core values and mission statement by Association Secretary Abhirami A. and a presidential address by Dr. Elizabeth Reshma M.T., Head of the Department. Eminent guest Dr. Athira Babu gave an inspiring speech on the importance of the association’s mission and engaged with attendees about opportunities in Mathematics.
A significant moment was the unveiling of the association’s name, ‘Metanoia,’ symbolizing its official launch. New members were inducted, with Ms. Abhirami A. named Association Secretary, Ms. Ayshath Hamna as Joint Secretary, Ms. Sukanya S. as Treasurer, and Ms. Viya Rose Fernandez as Magazine Editor. The event also featured the award ceremony for the Statistics Day story writing competition and a token of appreciation for Dr. Athira Babu. It concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks and the announcement of the new association leadership for the 2024-25 period.
