The Teresian Instrumentation and Consultancy Centre (TICC), St. Teresa’s College (Autonomous), Ernakulam, successfully facilitated Postgraduate and Undergraduate research projects in the fields of Microbiology and Molecular Biology during the academic year. A postgraduate research project focused on the isolation of pigmented bacteria from soil samples, molecular characterization of the isolates, and pigment extraction. Two pigment-producing bacterial isolates were successfully characterized and identified at the molecular level, highlighting the potential of microbial pigments for future biotechnological applications.

In addition, eight undergraduate student projects from St. Teresa’s College and two from Maharaja’s College were completed at TICC, covering diverse areas such as water quality assessment, detection of Escherichia coli in drinking water, microbial analysis of food products, antibacterial activity of natural products, and bio stability of food packaging bio plastics. These projects provided students with valuable hands-on experience in microbiological and molecular techniques, enhancing their practical and research skills.
