Description of the Programme

The Recycling Championship 2026 was organized by the Bhoomitrasena Club in association with NSS Unit 41 on 5 June 2026 at the Seminar Hall, St. Teresa’s College (Autonomous), Ernakulam, as part of the World Environment Day celebrations.

The programme commenced with a warm welcome address by Ms. Elizabeth Kuruvila, who highlighted the significance of responsible waste management and the role of educational institutions in promoting sustainable practices.

The Chief Guest of the programme was Adv. V. K. Minimol, Mayor of Kochi, who inaugurated the event and appreciated the efforts of the college in promoting environmental stewardship and waste collection initiatives

Dr. Anu Joseph, Principal, delivered the felicitation address, emphasizing the importance of environmental consciousness among the younger generation. Sr. Tessa, Director, also felicitated the gathering and encouraged students to continue their active participation in environmental initiatives.

The programme featured an insightful talk by Dr. Arun, Assistant Professor, CUSAT, on “Environmental Protection and Sustainable Living.” He discussed current environmental challenges, the importance of waste reduction, recycling practices, and the role of individuals in conserving natural resources. The session was highly informative and motivated participants to adopt environmentally responsible lifestyles.

A significant highlight of the programme was the recognition received by the college for its outstanding contribution to waste collection and recycling activities. During the function, the Mayor of Kochi presented a Trophy and Certificate to St. Teresa’s College for its Best Performance in Collecting Wastes, acknowledging the institution’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

The programme concluded with a renewed commitment from students and faculty members to continue supporting environmental conservation initiatives and promoting responsible waste management practices.
