Objectives of the Climate Change Awareness Rally
* To observe World Environment Day meaningfully by fostering environmental responsibility among citizens.
* To support the environmental awareness initiatives of the Bhoomitrasena Club (BMC) through active participation of students from BMC, department of Zoology and NSS.
* To create awareness among the public about climate change and its impact on the environment and human life.
* To encourage individuals and communities to adopt environmentally responsible and sustainable practices.
* To educate the public the importance of conserving natural resources and protecting biodiversity.
* To promote collective action towards reducing pollution and mitigating the effects of climate change.
* To spread environmental messages through placards, banners, and public engagement during the rally conducted by the green warriors.
* To inspire students to become active contributors to environmental conservation and sustainable development.
Outcome of the Climate Change Awareness Rally
* The programme was successfully conducted on World Environment Day,June 5th 2026, at the Arts Block of St. Teresa’s (Autonomous) College Ernakulam, with the active participation of BMC volunteers, students of department of Zoology and NSS collectively known as “Green Warriors”
* The rally was graced by Adv. V.K. Minimol, Mayor of Kochi, as the chief guest, which added significance to the event.
* The programme was inaugurated,and the rally was flagged off by the Director of the college, Rev. Sr. Tessa, in the presence of the Director of the Science block, Rev. Sr. Francis Ann, and the College Principal,Dr Anu Joseph, Dean of Extension Dr Nirmala Padmanabhan and other faculty membersand students.
* As part of the programme, the Mayor of Kochi, Adv. V.K. Minimolled a thumb-impression activity on a tree-shaped display, using green paint to symbolise collective responsibility for environmental protection.
The thumb impression was imprinted on the handmade paper from upcycled paper waste of KLA Election 2026, enriched with water hyacinth and tailoring waste.
* The Department of Zoology arranged a sapling distribution. The rally effectively spread awareness about climate change and encouraged people to adopt environmentally friendly practices and successfully achieved its objective of promoting environmental awareness and community participation in conservation efforts.
