On the 22nd of August 2023, the Department of Psychology at St. Teresa’s College (Autonomous) in Ernakulam joyfully celebrated the occasion of Onam in the department. Onam, a cherished annual cultural festival stands as a cornerstone in the calendar of Keralites, being the official festival of the state and featuring a rich tapestry of cultural events.

The students from the department adorned themselves in traditional attire and marked the occasion with the creation of a stunning Pookalam (floral carpet). Payasam was distributed to all in the department.  The festivities were further enhanced by captivating cultural performances, both by class groups and individual talents. Exciting competitions and games were organized, fostering camaraderie and merriment among the students and faculty members.

Notably, the Department of Psychology ensured that the celebration of Onam in 2023 adhered to environmentally conscious practices by following the Green protocol. Payasam was served in sturdy steel glasses, and reusable utensils were employed, significantly reducing waste generated during the event. The department also opted for eco-friendly decorations, emphasizing sustainability throughout the festivities. As an outcome of this vibrant and eco-conscious celebration, participants gained a deeper appreciation for the rich cultural heritage and values of Kerala, reinforcing the importance of preserving and cherishing these traditions.
