On the 22nd of February, the French Department received Ms Aathira Raju, Assistant Professor, Department of Law, Central University of Kerala, and her husband Shyam Raju, advocate, for a talk on the laws on Domestic Violence.

During that informative session, Ms Aathira introduced some cases to demonstrate what domestic violence exactly is but also to raise awareness of the fact that not all these cases are covered by the media, even though they exist because they are not considered as brutal. She explained that even if domestic violence is mainly found between intimate partners, it can also be found among family or friends.

Home is supposed to be the safest place on earth and yet, women are victims of domestic violence. Sometimes, they are not even aware of the situation. Ms Aathira also talked about the laws that exist for these women, how they can file a complaint, and where.

When you are a victim of domestic violence, finding someone to talk to is not easy. If you are aware of someone being abused, raise your voice.
