National Nutritional Month 2019
It is an annual nutrition education and information campaign, conducting every year.
Good nutrition is an important part of leading a healthy lifestyle. Combined with physical activity, your diet can help you to:
- reach and maintain a healthy weight
- reduce the risk of chronic diseases like heart attacks etc
- promote your overall health.
National Nutrition Month was created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
This campaign is celebrated each year during the month of March.
It focuses on:
- importance of making food choices
- developing sound eating
- physical activity habits.
The purpose of nutrition month is to help the public become aware of the:
- importance of good nutrition and
- healthful eating plan.
Motive
The main focus of the campaign is to bring awareness to:
- making informed food choices and
- developing good eating and
- physical activity habits.
This year’s objective is all about achieving a healthy lifestyle in order to:
- maintain a healthy weight
- and reduce risk of chronic disease
Formed
Initiated in 1973 as National Nutrition Week. Later this objective turned out into a month-long observance in 1980 in response to growing interest in nutrition.
The Theme
The theme of National Nutrition Month 2019 is to encourages everyone to realize the importance of:
- healthy diets
- physical activity
- reduced laziness.
Everyone can contribute to better nutrition and physical activity for better help.
Ms. Surya M Kottaram, Assistant Professor, Department of Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics had functioned as a resource person on the topic ‘Poshan Maah- 2019’.
It was organised by ICDS, Palluruthy as a part of National Nutrition Month Celebration- 2019 for Anganwadi helpers on 30/09/2019. She took classes on Basic Nutrition, Importance of first 1000 days and diet for Anaemia.
