On the 31.01.2024, the department of History in collaboration with the department of French organized a talk on the topic “Legal Frameworks for Combating Gender-Based Violence: Progress and Challenges” for the 2nd and 3rd year UG students of Department of History and Final year students of the Department of French.
Adv.Christy Tomy, currently practicing at High Court of Kerala, was the resource person for this session. The class commenced at 1:pm in the afternoon. Dr.Vinitha T. Tharakan, Associate professor of Department of History, delivered the welcome speech.
The session aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the existing legal frameworks and ignite a collective commitment to combating gender-based violence. The speaker’s profound knowledge was evident as they delved into the intricacies of the existing legal framework, offering insights into existing laws, challenges and potential avenues for improvement. The Q&A session allowed for an exchange of ideas and a deeper exploration of specific legal aspects.
The session came to an end by 2:30 pm. The Head of the Department, Dr. Stancy S. presented a certificate to the speaker. Vote of thanks was delivered by Sreenivedhya K. of 3rd BA History.
