As part of celebrating International Women’s Day on March 8th, the Department of English and
Prajna Foundation organised an online lecture on ‘The Work of Sexuality’. The session was taken over
by Dr Sharmila Sreekumar, an Associate Professor of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences
from IIT Mumbai. She talked about how women’s gender roles sexualise them to an uncomfortable
extent and how they have become normalised. The lecture also covered women’s role in media,
domestic circles and their submissiveness to patriarchy.
