A collaborative session, organized by the Departments of Commerce (SF) and Departments of Management Studies  , delved into the significance of case studies in enhancing understanding and knowledge. The session was graced by the presence of Mr. Balagopal Chandrashekhar IAS (Former), a distinguished economist with a wealth of experience in various fields. Mr. Balagopal, a former Chairman of the Board of Federal Bank Ltd. and a Trustee of Anaha Trust, shared his insights on the power of case
studies. He introduced the concept of “5 why analysis,” a Japanese problem-solving technique that involves asking “why” five times to identify the root cause. His presentation was enriched with statistical
data highlighting Kerala’s potential for economic growth, showcasing the state’s impressive performance in sectors such as steel, rubber, software, and services. The speaker emphasized the practical value of case studies in education, comparing them to field studies. He explained how case studies can bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world applications, helping students understand the limitations of certain concepts and develop critical thinking skills. By analyzing various scenarios and potential solutions, students can learn to approach problems holistically and make informed decisions.
