As part of the curriculum, the B.Sc Psychology, 3rd-semester students of the Department of Psychology went for a hospital visit to Santhula Trust Hospital, Kotothattukulam on Thursday, 27th October 2022. Santhula Trust Hospital offers a range of mental health services from geriatric care, and de-addiction rehabilitation to marital and child counseling. It is a 140-bed hospital located in Koothattukulam. The visit helped to educate and create awareness among students about how a mental health institution work and how to work as a part of a multidisciplinary team in a mental health institute.

The students were given an opportunity to interact with the clinical professionals in the hospital. The first session was an introductory session by Fr. Edward George, Director of the hospital. He gave insights into the basics of psychiatric illness and behavior and explained the different therapy styles like ECT, CBT and so on. The next session was taken by Ms. Amble, the Clinical Psychologist of the hospital. She explained the different wards in the hospital and the services provided in the hospital for in and out patients. There are different wards l for males and females, a rehabilitation ward and a ward for psychotic patients. After the sessions, the social workers gave the students and faculty members a tour of the hospital premises and explained how different areas and teams work. The industrial visit concluded by 5.30 p.m.
