• La Fête de la Musique: The Music Fest, ‘La Fête de la Musique’, was celebrated in the department of French on 21st June 2017, in connection with World Music Day celebrations which had its origin in France. The students and teachers celebrated the event together by participating in games like “Mimic the Song’ and singing songs in different languages. The II BA French students performed the ‘Cup Song’, which was especially enjoyed by the audience.
  • World Environment Day: World Environment Day celebrations were conducted by the Evergreen Tourism Club of the French department in college on 6th June 2017. Students from various departments brought saplings from their house and to plant it in the garden in the Science block. They are asked to nurture it for a period of one year and the girls who nurture it properly will be given prize on the next World Environment Day. The students and teachers also took a pledge the same day to protect and care for our Mother Nature.
  • Talk: A talk on Value based Education was conducted on 20th of July. Clinical Psychologist Ms. Divya Ajay addressed the students of the department of French on deterioration of values in the new generation and motivated them in the right direction.
  • Vayanavaram: As part of Vayanavaram celebrations a reading competition in French was conducted for the students who have taken as French as their second language in both Arts and Science stream on the 28th of June 2017. Ms. Teena Mary (Maths department) and Ms. M. Jessica (English department) were the winners.
  • La Fête nationale: The French National Day was celebrated in the department of French on 14th July 2017. The first years performed a skit portraying the events that led to the French revolution of 1789 followed by quiz, video presentation and songs.
  • Follow-up activities of World Environment Day: The students of MTTM had a one day picnic to the Swarnodhyanam (Botanical Garden, man-made forest), near to the Airport Golf Course, Nedumbassery on 21st July 2017

  • Motivational Talk: A half day talk by Mr. Thomas Mathai, Director of Riya Travels was conducted on 2nd August 2017. He addressed the II year students in the Arts Block and MTTM students in the seminar hall regarding the job opportunities in the Travel and Tourism Sector. He motivated the students to know more about the scope in the Aviation industry.
  • Dining Etiquettes: A one day visit to the Courtyard Marriott Hotel near the Airport Nedumbassery for a dining etiquette class was organized by the department of French on 21st August 2017. The students from various departments like Communicative English, B.Voc Software Development, Home Science, Commerce along with MTTM students participated in the program.
  • Talk: Deepak, Senior Product Manager, Riya Travels & Tours Pvt. Ltd. introduced the students of MTTM to Potential Tourism destination, i.e., Far East Asia. A well prepared PPT helped the students to understand the Geography of far East Asia.
  • French Film: The French Club arranged an opportunity for the BA French students to watch the French film, ‘Germinal’, directed by Gérard Depardieu on August 16th
  • French Fest: ‘La Fête francophone’, the 11th All Kerala inter-collegiate/inter-school French Fest was held on September 23rd This prestigious event of the department of French is organized every year by the students of the department which helps to promote their organizing and leadership skills. As part of the event, different competitions like, singing, photography, short films, recitation, spell bee, salad making, dance, elocution, were conducted. Highlight of the day was the French cuisine. French delicacies like quiche, tarte  au poulet, et  tarte aux champignons, croissant, crêpe, madeleine, éclaire, mousse au chocolat were available at the stalls. Gregorian Public School, Maradu, bagged the  over all trophy.
  • World Tourism Day: World Tourism Day was celebrated by the Evergreen Tourism Club of the department of French, on 27th September 2017 in the college. Various competitions like essay writing and photography were conducted. Prizes will be given to the students on the India Tourism Day in January.
  • Participation in World Tourism Day Celebration by DTPC: The students of the French department participated in the painting competition organized by The District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) as part of World Tourism Day on 27th September 2017 at Durbar Hall Ground. The students also participated in a cycle rally followed by the cleaning programme organized by DTPC near the Boat Jetty premises early in the morning after which they were taken for a boat cruise and breakfast in the boat.
  • French Film: Another Film session was organized by the French Club for the BA French students. The movie screened was an animated movie ‘Kirikou et la Sorcière’ on September 13th
  • Quiz Competition: The BA French students participated in an online quiz competition on French gastronomy which was conducted by the Indian Association of French Teachers on August 29th 2017.
  •  Feed the Hunger – Hospital Visit: The students and teachers visited the General hospital, Ernakulam on the 6th of October 2017. There, they had a different experience. They served food to the patients in all the wards.

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • Swedish Program: As part of exchange program with the Hersby Institute, Sweden, St. Teresa’s College welcomed around 20 Swedish students from 21st October 2017 to 26th October 2017. A group of 3 students who had chosen Tourism as part of their visit were assigned to the Department of French. These students had interactive sessions with the Tourism faculty and the students of the department. Ms. Bindu Nair served as the resource person for The teachers in charge, Ms. Amita Sarah Varghese and Ms. Jennifer Sandy James arranged classes for them on Social Issues caused by the impacts of Tourism at Fort Kochi and Mattancherry, the prominent Tourist places in Ernakulam in association with Brunton Boatyard Hotel, Fort Kochi and Fort Cochin Clean Foundation.

 

  • Gender Sensitization Programme: On 29th November 2017, the department of French organized a session for the students to inculcate in them the sense of being self-sufficient and independent. Successful women executives from the Marriott Hotel, Kochi; Marriott Courtyard Airport Hotel; and Le Meridien shared their life experiences and talked about how important it is for a woman to be independent and have a successful career. The resource persons were Ms. Rowena Rocha, Human Resources Manager, Kochi Marriott, Ms. Suganthi Vipin, HR Manager, Le Meridien, Kochi, Ms. Chinnu Jimmy, Multiproperty Marcomm Manager for Marriott Kochi and Marriott Courtyard, Kochi, Ms. Jihan Jaleel, Executive Housekeeper, Kochi Marriott, Ms. Nicky Ester, Marcomm Manager, Le Meridien, Kochi.
  • French Fim Fest: The department of French in association with the Public Library, Ernakulam organized a French Film Fest from 12th December to 14th December 2017 at the Public Library, Ernakulam. The movies screened were Welcome, Bienvenue Chez Les Ch’tis and Tais-toi!. The fest was open to public.
